In questo sito, nella sezione mixare com mac, ho trovato un bel programmino freeware che si chiama DJay. Il mio problema è il preascolto (in cuffia) della successiva canzone da far suonare.
Dall'alto della mia inesperienza credo che il "problema" sia dovuto al fatto che il sistema audio del mio PowerBook G4 sia monocanale.
Come procedere? Schede multicanale sono costosette se non sbaglio!

...ecco, già meglio... la risposta, più che esaustiva, di jammin' stava facendo piangere ancor di più il mio portafogli!
Quindi collegando questa piccola periferica dovrei riuscire a gestire i due canali audio di DJay (ma anche di altri software musicali di mixaggio) separatamente?

Pre-Cueing

When you are mixing music you will usually want to pre-cue the next track you'll be playing, that is, hearing it before it is output through the main speakers. To do this you need an external sound card that has at least 4 output channels. The main audio output will be played through channels 1/2 (so that is where your amplifier/speakers have to be connected to. Channels 3/4 are used for Pre-Cueing (there you should plug in your headphones).

Note: the Built-in audio sound card of your mac has only 2 output channels, thus it is not suitable for pre-cueing. However, you can use the Built-in audio together with an iMic and don't need any additional hardware.

Here's what you need to do if you have an iMic:

1. Make sure you are loged as administrator because this is necessary for Audio MIDI Setup to generate a new aggregate devices.
2. Connect iMic to your Mac.
3. Plug in your amplfier and/or speakers to the speakers output of your Mac and your headphones to iMic.
4. Open Audio MIDI Setup which is located in /Applications/Utilities.
5. In Audio MIDI Setup open aggregate device editor in the "Audio" menu at the top of the screen.




6. Click the plus button to create a new device.
7. Select Built-in Output checkbox.
8. Select iMic USB audio system with 2 output channels.
9. Now you should have an audio device with 4 output channels made from the 2 devices where the Built-in Output is used as clock sourse. Press Done to close the aggregate device editor.




10. Select the new aggregate device in the "Properties For:" popup to review the new device. Make sure that the output format is 44100.0 Hz. Then quit Audio MIDI Setup.
11. Start djay.
12. Go to Preferences->Devices and select the new aggregate device.
13. Press the headphones button in the lower bar of the main window. Now you can fade between the left and the right channel.

These are the steps you have to do if you have a 4 (or more) channel soundcard:

1. Connect the external sound card to your Mac.
2. Plug in your amplfier and/or speakers to channels 1/2 of your sound card and your headphones to channels 3/4.
3. In Preferences->Devices your device should be listed. Select it.
4. Press the headphones button in the lower bar of the main window. Now you can fade between the left and the right channel.
