G5 1,8 GHz mono proc: good news
Buone notizie da "mamma" Apple per quanto riguarda i G5 mono processore prodotti verso la fine del 2004 ("Late 2004").
Sono quelli con HD più piccolo (80 Giga) e con ridotta velocità del front side bus (600 MHz).
Questi G5 manifestano frequenti "crash" di sistema, non riescono ad espellere un CD/DVD dopo due ore di funzionamento della macchina, non reggono il collegamento a Internet dopo le prime due ore e non si risvegliano quando sono stati messi in stop.
Problemi molto seri di cui ora finalmente Apple ha ammesso l'esistenza, promettendo un imminente aggiornamento (non è specificato di cosa, ma è presumibile che si tratti del firmware).

…we've now received word from developers (who wish to remain anonymous) that Mac OS X 10.4.3 does not include a fix for this issue, and that a separate firmware update will likely be required.
One developer tells us:
"Mac OS X 10.4.3(8F46) although loaded with over 550 fixes, has not resolved even one of the numerous freeze-ups and Energy Saver related problems reported on the 1.8GHz Power Mac G5 (late 2004) systems."
In the meantime, the only viable workarounds, as previously published on MacFixIt, are as follows:
Under the Sleep tab: Drag the slider under "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" to Never; Drag the slider under "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" to Never
Under the Options tab: Set Processor Performance to the "Highest" setting instead of "Automatic".

Ancora una nuova versione del firmware per il disgraziato PowerMac G5 1.8 GHz mono-processore che aveva problemi di stop (Apple PowerMac G5 - 1.1).
Dovrebbe essere disponibile su Aggiornamento Software.
